The Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci between 1503-1519. The painting has no eyebrows or eyelashes. One theory: plucking eyebrows might have been fashionable in Renaissance Italy. Another theory: high-resolution scans in 2007 show the original had eyebrows but the paint layer wore away over time.
