First Impressions Are Drawn in Milliseconds

1 dk okuma 55 görüntüleme 5.0 (1 oy) 18 February 2026

Kısaca

The moment you see a face, a ‘trustworthy?’ feeling can appear. The brain builds a fast model from limited data, and that model can bend new information to fit itself.

When you meet someone, a feeling appears: warm, cold, safe, distant. It can form before you think—because the brain loves speed.\n\nA first impression is a predictive model built from limited cues. Facial expression, posture, and tone can quickly sort a person into ‘threat’ or ‘opportunity.’\n\nSurprising detail: the model can shape later information. Without noticing, people may pay more attention to details that confirm the first judgment, letting the impression feed itself.\n\nIt matters because it helps us treat social mistakes more gently. First impressions are powerful but not final verdicts; a deliberate second look can correct the brain’s rushed sketch.
