Tears Don"t Fall in Space

1 min read 250 views 5.0 (3 votes) 16 February 2026

Summary

Without gravity, tears form a ball around the eye. If astronauts don"t wipe them, vision gets blurry.

Without gravity in space, tears don"t flow down. Surface tension causes them to form a growing water ball around the eye. This ball blocks vision and causes discomfort. Astronauts must absorb them with towels or tissues. Sweat behaves the same way - forms a film on skin instead of dripping. Source: NASA Human Research
